Maple Leaf Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup butter softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups all-purpose flour

1-1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

Pinch nutmeg

Directions

In bowl, cream butter with granulated and brown sugars until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.

Stir together flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg; gradually stir into creamed mixture until blended. Divide dough in half; wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm.

Working with half of the dough at a time, roll out on floured surface to 1/8- inch thickness.

Using floured 3-inch cookie cutter, cut out cookies; place on greased baking sheets. Bake in 350 °F oven for 8 to 10 min., or until lightly browned around edges. Let cool on racks.

Store in tins at room temperature for up to 1 week or in freezer for up to 2 weeks. Makes about 5 dozen.
